When is Early Orthodontic Intervention Recommended?

Orthodontic treatment can be a topic of contention for many parents. After all, a child’s teeth and jaw bone are still developing, and continue to do so well into their teenage years. However, an orthodontic screening should be carried out early in the child’s life so that dental problems that might affect the child in later years can be detected earlier.
Most dentists recommend that children from the age of seven should receive orthodontic screening. This age is a common age where many children begin to lose their child, or ‘baby’ teeth, and begin to receive their adult teeth. This transitional period between teeth is often the best time to discover whether there are likely to be dental anomalies in the development of teeth that might affect dental health.
Such anomalies can include crooked teeth, which in turn can affect the biting strength and bite pattern; in time, this can lead to tooth impaction and bruxism. Early intervention at this age can help to prevent these, and other major dental health problems from occurring.
A child’s jaw is still developing at this age, and so it is much easier for an orthodontist to correct, through such treatments as braces, which serve to straighten and realign teeth that are out-of-position. Because the child’s jaw and bones are still developing, they tend to be softer and more pliable, and so it becomes easier to correct issues of realignment.
Other issues can occur, and crowded teeth can create pockets which are notoriously difficult to clean effectively, and so can harbor harmful bacteria which can lead to tooth decay and gum disease. Speech impediments, such as a lisp, could also manifest as a result of incorrectly aligned teeth.
And, as children grow older, they become more self-conscious about their appearance – and this includes their smile! Having a good-looking smile goes a long way towards building confidence, not only through the aesthetic aspects, but also in other areas, such as aiding in speech and eating. Orthodontic treatment can help to develop a child’s confidence in these areas.
It often pays to have a child receive an orthodontic screening early in life; by doing so, potential dental problems can be detected and corrected much easier. By giving a child the best smile possible in their earlier years, they can grow with the confidence that a beautiful smile can bring.

How Do I Care for My Invisalign Aligners?

When it comes to having straighter teeth in order to improve a smile, or to correct some flaw in the alignment of teeth, such as an overbite or underbite, Invisalign aligners have become one of the most popular choices of treatment.
Invisalign consists of a series of clear aligners that have been specially created by an orthodontist to tackle and realign specific teeth to deliver a desired result. Each aligner in the series is worn for a period of approximately two weeks, after which it is discarded and replaced with the next aligner in the series.
Over a period of time, the teeth targeted by Invisalign will slowly begin to alter position towards a desired goal, as planned in tandem by the patient and the orthodontist.
The benefits of Invisalign are numerous; they are made of a soft, clear plastic material and are all but invisible when worn, and so others need not know a person is undergoing orthodontic treatment. The aligners can also be removed to allow the wearer to eat and maintain a healthy diet, and to enjoy the foods they love.
Removal of the Invisalign aligner helps also with maintaining a good dental health regime; the wearer can continue to brush, floss and rinse as they did before.
What’s more, the aligners themselves are easy to keep clean. All they require is a good rinse under cold water and a gentle scrub with a soft brush to remove any bacteria, film or food particles that may have planted on the surface. This helps to eliminate any odor and ensures that the aligners remain clean. Even if the aligners do become soiled, the duration of time each one is worn means that it won’t be long until it can be discarded and the next one comes into play.
Of course, regular visits to your orthodontist are always recommended during treatment. These visits help both the patient and the orthodontist to chart the progress of the treatment and help to provide early warning of any potential dental problems that might arise.

Orthodontic Treatment: What happens if I wait until I’m older?

As we age, there are three main motivators for seeking orthodontic treatment:
·         Cosmetic concerns (We want teeth that are straighter and more attractive.)
·         Functional concerns (We want teeth that fit together properly and jaw joints that function smoothly)
·         Periodontal concerns (We can reduce the risk of gum disease when we are better able to clean between the teeth and near the gumline.)
Whether you are interested in a smile that looks better, a smile that is easier to clean, or teeth that fit together better, you'll find that orthodontics is the ideal solution.
Braces are not an uncommon treatment option for adults. Of course, the treatment is slightly faster and more predictable when performed during the childhood and teenage years when the bone is softer and still growing. Once the bone (and the patient) has matured, it becomes denser, making tooth movement just a little more challenging.
Postponing your treatment until adulthood could also mean that mild problems may become more advanced. Crowding, jaw joint problems, and the risk for gum disease and cavities can increase significantly without prompt intervention. The treatment for these conditions is likely to become more complex as each year passes.
But, should you choose to wait until you are older, be assured that adult patients can still reap tremendous benefits from limited or comprehensive orthodontic treatment.
It feels good to treat yourself to the dental care that you need and want. The anticipation of the final outcome makes the whole process even more exciting, plus there are more options than ever for achieving the smile that you desire. With modern orthodontic solutions, adult patients have access to clear, removable, or low-profile alternatives that can make the process more comfortable and more discreet.
It's never too late to improve your smile. Whether you’re a pre-teen, a high school student, or a parent, there is an orthodontic solution that will work perfectly for you. Start by contacting the office of Dr. Seth Newman today for a consultation.

Dental Braces: How often should I brush my teeth?

The main purpose of brushing (and flossing!) is to remove plaque and food particles that could contribute to tooth decay, gum disease, stains and bad breath. And, although we tend to say “Brush your teeth”, the real goal is to clean the entire mouth. The tongue, gums, and the folds of the cheeks and lips can harbor the bacteria that are responsible for a long list of dental conditions. Brushing the teeth as well as any other surfaces within the mouth is an important way to protect your oral health.
When you have dental braces, the responsibility to control plaque bacteria becomes increasingly important. The appliances that are used to straighten your teeth also provide perfect hiding places for plaque and food. In a virtually endless cycle, plaque will continue to form on every surface in the mouth including orthodontic brackets, wires, elastics, and even retainers. As any patient with braces will tell you, these are also areas where breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks will accumulate.
To prevent unwanted dental diseases, orthodontic patients should make time to brush and floss after each meal. Plaque control should also be performed after snacks and after any beverage other than water is consumed. Before bed, brushing and flossing should be performed yet again because undisturbed bacteria will continue to multiply, colonize, and create acidic byproducts as you sleep.
It’s important to remember that brushing alone may not be enough to maintain good dental health. In fact, it may be difficult to maneuver the toothbrush bristles around your braces. If necessary, choose power toothbrushes, floss threaders, interdental brushes, and mouthwashes that are designed to enhance your homecare efforts.
Braces certainly require a little extra patience and attention, but the reward is a beautiful and healthy smile that you can be proud of. During your periodic dental visits, ask about other tips and advice on caring for your braces.

Orthodontic Treatment: Will my teeth naturally straighten out over time?

Patients generally do not relish the thought of wearing braces to correct a malocclusion. However, if teeth are crooked, malformed, overcrowded or contain gaps between teeth, it is just wishful thinking that these issues will disappear on their own. Orthodontic treatment is usually required to re-align teeth to their correct position.
Straightening teeth should be done for more than just aesthetic purposes. Although we all want a beautiful smile, there are other considerations when seeing the orthodontist about treatment.
Crooked or misaligned teeth can produce negative results including:
·         Areas that are difficult to reach with a tooth brush and dental floss become a breeding ground for bacteria and plaque build-up that can cause dental decay, gum disease, bad breath, and the potential for tooth loss.
·         A malocclusion occurs when the top teeth do not align correctly with the bottom teeth. When this is the case, patients often start to grind and clench their teeth and jaws. This is a habit that generally starts during subconscious sleep, but can occur during the day as well.
·         Tenderness is prevalent, particularly in gum tissue where teeth are overcrowded.
·         Embarrassment and low self-esteem often go hand-in-hand with patients that require teeth straightening. Most people don’t give a second thought about eating, speaking and smiling in public, but if you are ashamed of your teeth it is on your mind constantly.
The shortcomings of crooked teeth are evident, but orthodontic treatment can resolve all issues including an over bite, under bite or cross bite. The length of treatment time will vary based on the severity of malocclusion.
Extracting one or a few teeth may be recommended to achieve the optimum result. Once healed, braces can be placed in a couple of appointments. X-rays, photographs, and dental impressions will be taken as diagnostic tools. If spacers are needed to facilitate placing the braces, an additional appointment may be required.
Once the braces are in place, periodic visits to the orthodontist are required to make needed adjustments to keep the teeth straightening process on track. Missed appointments can result in treatment delays.
The finished result will have been worth every minute. Brushing and flossing will be easier; straight teeth that are aligned will ease the need for grinding; and a brilliant smile will be your daily reward.

Importance of Treating Malocclusions

Any physical abnormality that can affect your overall health should be treated … deficient eye sight calls for wearing glasses; a broken bone is set and placed in a cast; a hearing aid is used when hearing loss occurs … all of these things and more can impact quality of life if not addressed. The same thing applies to dental issues, and when treating a malocclusion, braces are usually at the top of the list to correct it.
A malocclusion occurs when the top teeth do not align correctly to the bottom teeth. There are multiple reasons this happens:
·         Lack of jaw space to accommodate all permanent teeth
·         Tooth loss that results in remaining teeth drifting toward open spaces
·         Genetic abnormalities
·         Injury
·         Extrinsic issues such as thumb sucking
Whatever the root cause, a malocclusion can result in a cross bite, over bite or under bite. Left untreated, the following can occur:
·         Dental decay – when teeth do not align properly, there are areas that may be difficult to reach with a tooth brush and dental floss. Bacteria and plaque build-up can lead to decay, gum disease and even tooth loss.
·         Grinding and clenching – the teeth naturally want to align properly, and when they don’t we can subconsciously (usually during sleep) grind the teeth and clench the jaw trying to find a way for the teeth to meet. Premature enamel erosion, uneven teeth, broken teeth, TMJ, and discomfort in neck, head and jaw are all potential side effects of grinding and clenching.
·         Lack of self-esteem – Uneven or crooked teeth discourage eating, speaking and smiling in public.
A consultation with an orthodontist can explain what is needed to correct your dental malocclusion. If overcrowding is an issue, the extraction of one or more teeth may be recommended before embarking on corrective action.  A healing period is generally needed before starting the straightening process.
Treatment usually involves the placement of braces that will steadily shift teeth to their correct position. Braces are adjusted every few weeks to keep teeth moving. Once the bite has been remedied, a retainer will be worn to help the teeth develop a memory of where they rightly belong.
Caring for your new, straight teeth, including daily hygiene and dental check-ups, will allow for excellent dental health and years of eating and smiling enjoyment.

Invisalign Orthodontic Treatment for Comfort and Convenience

If you suspect that you may need braces soon or in the future, there is no need to worry. Braces no longer have to be the hassle they used to be. Advancement in orthodontics have made it so that getting braces is now more convenient than ever—and best of all, many methods can barely be seen. Among these methods is Invisalign, a new approach to braces that is not only convenient, but comfortable as well.

With Invisalign, the traditional metal wires and brackets are eliminated. Instead,
Invisalign consists of clear plastic aligners which are virtually impossible to see. These aligners are customized and molded in order to match the shape of each patient’s mouth. The aligners act as traditional braces, gently repositioning the patient’s teeth back to their correct position.
Check-ups every several weeks are necessary to ensure that your teeth are responding properly. These are brief visits that simply make certain the fit of the aligners is correct and that treatment is progressing as planned.
Invisalign offers further convenience in the fact that they can be removed when you eat. Your orthodontist may recommend that you still remain on a soft diet for a few days after being fitted, but that’s where the inconvenience stops.  Invisalign is comfortable, convenient, and an amazing alternative to traditional metal braces.

So if you have crooked teeth and suspect that you might need braces but have shied away due to the stereotypes, you no longer have to postpone treatment. Keep in mind that untreated crooked teeth can lead to much bigger problems if they are not treated in a timely manner. With Invisalign, you now have a more manageable and convenient approach to braces.
Contact our skilled and dedicated team at Newman Orthodontics today to get started. With Invisalign, you can regain your former dazzling smile in comfort without worrying about how it will alter your appearance.

Orthodontic Treatment: Give your child the gift of a healthy smile

It’s no big secret among parents and dentists that most kids don’t enjoy visiting the dentist. As a rule, most orthodontists suggest that your child should be seen by the age of seven for an orthodontic screening. It is not uncommon for children at this age to present issues that may lead to the need for braces in the near future.

It’s important to make sure your children brush their teeth at least two times a day; for younger children you may have to watch over them, as they tend to rush things. This will increase their likelihood of having a great first experience with their orthodontist. An early orthodontic screening is vital as issues at this stage of your child’s dental development such as an overbite or tooth crowding can be addressed, possibly eliminating the need for more complex treatment down the road.

Many parents are faced with the idea that their children might need braces at this stage. Rest assured that braces are no longer the ordeal they once were. There are currently more options to choose from, including braces that can barely be seen.

Traditional braces are perhaps the most well-known solution. These are metal braces that are used to help correct problematic teeth.
Our office also offers Incognito braces for both children and adults.  These braces are placed behind your teeth, making them nearly impossible to see. These are especially effective when dealing with pre-teen and teen patients that are overly concerned about their appearance. Incognito braces are created based on each patient’s condition, making them comfortable and fully customizable.

If you believe it is time for your child’s first orthodontic screening, call Newman Orthodontics at 516-626-2060 today to schedule an appointment. It is never too early to start thinking about the dental health of your children!

Widely Spaced Teeth: Is Invisalign an Option?

Wide spaces between your teeth can make your smile less attractive. If you are self-conscious about gaps between your teeth or the overall alignment of your smile, Invisalign can be a viable orthodontic option that will restore your appearance and self-confidence.

Choosing an Orthodontic Treatment

Choosing the right treatment is vital to the success of your orthodontic treatment. Depending upon how large the gaps are between your teeth or how severe your misalignment is, your orthodontist will recommend Invisalign or traditional braces.

Your choice of orthodontic treatment begins with a consultation. Our team will evaluate your teeth, making molds as well as digital photographs to demonstrate what your teeth look like now and what they will look like after your treatment is completed. Based on your individual goals and needs, we will recommend a treatment and explain how it will work, how long it will take, and what to expect after treatment is completed.

How Invisalign Works

Orthodontic treatment is usually associated with traditional braces, which uses metal braces and rubber bands to gradually move your teeth into proper alignment. With Invisalign, metal and bands are replaced by trays made of clear plastic.

These trays are carefully formed to move your teeth a small amount while you are wearing them. You usually wear each tray for about two weeks then switch to a new tray that is slightly different than the previous tray. The new tray moves the teeth again, until, by the time you use the last tray, your teeth are in their proper position.

During your treatment, you must be careful to follow your orthodontist’s instructions for care of your trays. You should wear them for about twenty-two hours of each day. During meals, they should be removed to keep them clean. They also should not be exposed to hot beverages to keep from warping the plastic. Foods and darkly colored drinks could discolor your trays, so you should also avoid exposure to these types of staining agents. With proper care, and by using your trays according to instructions, you’ll achieve the smile you’ve always wanted.

To find out if Invisalign is the right treatment option for you, contact Newman Orthodontics today to schedule an appointment.

Orthodontics for Children and Adults

Advancements in the field of orthodontics include innovative orthodontic treatments that address dental anomalies effectively, with least discomfort for the patients. Utilizing these effective, comfortable treatment options children and adults can straighten their misaligned teeth, and benefit from a charming, dazzling smile as well as improved facial appearance.

Dental Anomalies that Can Be Treated with Orthodontic Procedures

Crooked teeth, protruded teeth, crossbites, openbites, overbites and underbites can be successfully corrected with orthodontic braces. With dental irregularities out of the way, children and adults can also improve their physical fitness by avoiding tooth loss, abnormal wear of tooth surfaces, gum diseases, chewing problems, digestion disorders and speech impairments.

Thorough Evaluation Necessary to Finalize the Treatment Procedure

Before prescribing orthodontic procedures, orthodontists examine the structure of the teeth, face and jaws of their patients through X-rays, photographs and bite impressions. Metal braces, ceramic braces or Invisalign braces will be recommended on the basis of this evaluation.

Traditional metal braces are usually recommended for children. These braces are strong and also cost-effective. Clear ceramic braces, known as tooth-colored braces are very smooth, translucent and are completely stain resistant.

Invisalign invisible braces are mostly favored by adults and teens. Invisalign clear plastic aligners are specially designed using advanced 3D imaging technology. The patient has to wear one set of aligners for two weeks and replace it with a fresh set, to speed up the teeth straightening.

Invisalign braces promote good oral hygiene. Patients can eat, drink, brush and floss normally. Moreover, these braces are virtually invisible, so the treatment can be completed without the knowledge of others.

An Experienced Orthodontist Is Most Important

Only an experienced orthodontist can correctly determine the braces that are most suitable for children and adults. Besides, your orthodontist should be able to educate you on the orthodontic options available, and why a particular procedure is most suitable for you. In this technology age, the doctor can even show you the after treatment images on the computer, so that you can have a clear idea of the results you can expect.

Look Good at Work with Clear Braces

Adult orthodontic patients often want to undergo treatment without looking like a teeny-bopper, especially in professional settings where they have to maintain their credibility. Having visible braces can be a drawback in the workplace, a concern that may cause some patients to avoid treatment altogether.
If you want to straighten your teeth without attracting attention to the fact that you’re doing so, consider invisible braces.
Patients who want to take advantage of invisible braces have a number of options that an orthodontist can use to treat any patient’s case and fit into any budget.
Ceramic brackets are made of translucent material, allowing them to blend in with the teeth. This is a good, affordable option for invisible braces for many patients, but these brackets do have some drawbacks. They’re slightly more fragile than conventional braces, and they can become discolored. Also, the wires that connect the brackets are still visible, although the overall effect on the smile is still much less noticeable than with traditional metal brackets.
Incognito braces are another alternative for patients who are concerned about their appearance during orthodontic treatment and not just after. With this method, the brackets and wires are placed on the back of the teeth and customized to your unique situation.
The Invisalign system is yet another option for orthodontic patients who don’t want to obscure their smiles during treatment. This approach repositions the teeth through a progressive series that apply varying forces to the teeth, just as regular braces do. But these trays are much less intrusive, and they can be removed at mealtime and for brushing and flossing.
The Invisalign system eliminates many of the concerns associated with bracket-and-wire techniques, whether they are on the front or back of the teeth. With Invisalign, patients can maintain a normal oral hygiene routine without the worry that their appliances will get in the way of brushing and flossing or trap leftover food particles close to the teeth, providing a food source for oral bacteria.
Invisalign patients also don’t face the same dietary restrictions as those with standard braces.
If you’re reluctant to pursue orthodontic treatment due to aesthetic concerns, consider one of the forms of invisible braces instead. You’ll get a beautiful smile in the long-term without having to sacrifice your appearance in the short-term.

Invisalign: What happens after treatment is completed?

Invisalign treatment is a treatment used by an orthodontist to straighten or realign teeth in order to improve the aesthetic qualities of a person’s smile, or to correct dental anomalies that might exist in the patient’s mouth, such as overbites, underbites, and malocclusions.

Invisalign differs from conventional braces treatments in several ways; not least of all, they are made of a clear material, and so are virtually invisible when worn. Invisalign can also be removed, and so wearers are able to enjoy food and drinks that would otherwise be off limits with conventional braces. The ability to remove Invisalign aids the cleaning process too, making them easy to maintain.

The procedure involves the patient wearing a series of clear braces that have been specially developed by the orthodontist to slowly realign specific teeth into a new desired position. Once one set of Invisalign braces has completed its task, it is replaced with the next in the series; this continues until the desired result has been achieved.

Each set of retainers is typically worn for around two weeks, while regular visits to the orthodontist, typically around six week intervals, will ensure the treatment is progressing as planned.

Once the Invisalign treatment has been completed, the patient will require a retainer to be worn, typically during the night in order to bolster the now-realigned teeth. If a patient neglects to wear a retainer after Invisalign treatment has concluded, they will experience their teeth beginning to shift naturally back to their preordained position in the mouth; undoing all the work of the treatment!

Over time, the jawbone around the realigned teeth begins to thicken and grow in density, which will help to keep the teeth in their new position. However, the support afforded by the bone is not sufficient to hold the teeth in their new position unaided, and so it is necessary to use a retainer to maintain the alignment. With Invisalign treatment, the final set of aligners used can often be repurposed as the retainer.

Importance of Plaque Control During Orthodontic Treatment

Everyone knows the importance of keeping plaque under control for the good of our dental health; this is especially important during periods of dental treatment.

For any patient who is undergoing orthodontic treatments, such as braces, it is important to follow the instructions of the orthodontist, who can advise on good dental hygiene habits to help minimize the likliehood of tooth decay during treatment. Plaque is a sticky substance that forms on our teeth and gumline due to bacteria in the mouth. It is a natural occurring substance, but regular brushing and flossing of the teeth helps to remove plaque. Plaque that is not removed can build up and solidify into a harder substance called tartar. Tartar is more difficult to remove, and often requires the services of a dental hygienist to successfully get rid of tartar build up. Plaque and tartar, if not removed, can lead to tooth decay.

Orthodontic treatment can make keeping the teeth clean more challenging; the supports and wires used in treatment can interfere with the patient’s normal dental hygiene program. Brushing and flossing become less effective, and plaque build-up is harder to prevent. As a result, it’s vitally important to ensure a good dental hygiene program is maintained.

An orthodontist is able to advise on a series of measures that can help to minimize the risks associated with plaque build up during orthodontic treatment.

These steps include the avoidance of sticky or sugary foods and drinks, advice on how to brush and floss while wearing braces, the best type of toothbrush, toothpaste and floss to use, advice on using flouride mouthwashes to wash away bacteria, and of course regular dental visits to ensure dental health is being maintained, and to counter any problems that may have arisen.

Following the orthodontist’s advice on dental hygiene while wearing braces can help minimize the risks associated with plaque and tooth decay during braces treatment, helping to keep teeth clean and healthy during orthodontic treatment.

Are clear braces actually “clear”?

In the past, orthodontic treatments involving teeth realignment were typically performed using traditional dental braces with wires and brackets in order to straighten crooked, misaligned or crowded teeth. Although effective, traditional dental braces can be unsightly, especially for image-conscious teenagers.
However, advancements in dental technology have given rise to clear braces that provide all of the function of traditional dental braces, but without much of the adverse effect that normal dental braces might have on a person’s image.
Clear braces aren’t actually completely clear and so are not invisible in the wearer’s mouth. Instead, clear braces are fabricated from ceramic materials and alloys that appear to be clear; while traditional metallic braces are instantly noticeable, casual observers will likely fail to notice a person is wearing clear braces at all without closer inspection.
Clear braces work in the same fashion as traditional braces; they are fitted by an orthodontist as a means to exert pressure on specific teeth in order to slowly pull them into position and correct issues such as overbites, underbites, or to correct spaces between teeth to improve alignment.
In addition to their clear appearance, clear braces are also lighter and less bulky in the mouth.
For a completely clear solution to realign teeth, consider Invisalign as an alternative to clear braces. Although many people believe the two to be one-and-the-same, they are in fact two distinctly different treatments. While clear braces follow the same bracket and wire model of traditional braces, Invisalign involves the use of transparent trays that a patient wears for a period of time over their teeth.
Invisalign treatment involves a wearer using a series of clear mouth-guards that have been created to shift teeth in pre-determined small increments over a period of time. Each mouth-guard is worn for around two weeks, before it is discarded and the next one in the sequence is worn, again for a period of around two weeks. The treatment continues on a similar cycle until the desired result is achieved.
And so, for any image conscious teenager – or adult – who is seeking a method of improving their smile through the orthodontic realignment of teeth, there are methods available to allow them to do so, from clear braces to Invisalign.

Will Braces Correct TMJ Disorder?

TMJ, or Temporomandibular Joint Disorder, is a severely debilitating condition that affects a person’s jaw joints; TMJ is normally characterized by the sufferer experiencing pain the muscles of the face, head, jaws and neck. Many people believe that TMJ is a condition they have to put up with, but orthodontics can help relieve the symptoms of TMJ.

TMJ occurs when the joint which connects the mandible (lower jaw) with the temporal bone in the skull becomes misaligned, and there are many causes and factors which can lead to TMJ, from misaligned bite, to bruxism, and skull trauma.

In addition to the symptoms given above, TMJ can also be characterized by the clicking, or popping of jaw joints; by jaws locking or sticking in open or closed positions; or by changes in a person’s biting alignment. In fact, there are many symptoms of TMJ, and often a diagnosis from an orthodontist can confirm whether TMJ exists in a patient.

While many sufferers of TMJ tend to live through the pain, others rely on relaxation, physiotherapy and massage techniques to relieve the symptoms. However, for more prolonged relief, TMJ can be successfully treated by an orthodontist through the use of dental braces.

The braces work by slowly altering the position of a patient’s teeth, helping to realign their biting pattern by shifting teeth through exerted pressure on one or more teeth. As the teeth shift into the desired position, the pressure on the mandible joint is lessened, helping to relieve the symptoms of the disorder.

Sufferers of TMJ needn’t feel they have to battle through the pain associated with the condition. TMJ will not improve of its own accord, and so sufferers should seek advice from an orthodontist for diagnosis of the condition, and also methods to relieve and cure the symptoms of temporomandibular joint disorder.

Benefits of Invisible Braces

Braces are an orthodontic tool that can effectively correct improper bites. Some patients, however, are uncomfortable with how the braces look, especially many adults who feel that orthodontic treatment is for teenagers. One solution is invisible braces from Incognito - braces placed on the backs of the teeth, where no one can see them.
Invisible braces are the only braces available that are completely customized, giving you the most efficient treatment possible. Since the brackets are placed behind the teeth instead of on the front, you can complete your treatment without anyone knowing you have braces.
Invisible braces are also excellent for patients who are worried about damage that brackets and wires from traditional braces can cause to the front of the teeth. Discoloration or staining that occurs with regular braces is prevented by using invisible braces, so you can avoid having to go back to the dentist for corrective treatments.
Patients who play contact sports also benefit from invisible braces. Regular braces can cause injury to the mouth and teeth during contact sports, even if you wear a mouth guard. Incognito braces help to prevent injury due to the placement of the brackets behind the teeth.
Regular braces can also cause difficulties for people who play wind instruments, which require the musician to make specific shapes with his or her lips. Invisible braces do not impede this like regular braces can. Both adult and teen musicians will benefit from invisible braces.
Perhaps the biggest benefit to using invisible braces is that you can retain your smile during treatment. Adult professionals and teens alike worry about how braces will affect their self-esteem, and with invisible braces, it’s a concern you do not need to have.
Most patients who are good candidates for regular braces can also get invisible braces, but each situation is unique. Contact the office of Dr. Seth Newman, serving the Long Island area, to find out if invisible braces are right for you. Call 516-626-2060 to schedule your visit today.
